Brian Coatta is a co-founder of Carrier Mobile, an Ann Arbor-based startup developing mobile phone applications for the logistics industry. He and his team are working out of the TechArb through sponsorship by RPM Ventures’ RPM-10 internship program. Carrier Mobile currently has funding through Spark, an Ann Arbor economic development organization. Brian is a final-year student in the undergraduate Industrial and Operations Engineering program at the University of Michigan, where he is also pursuing an additional certificate in entrepreneurship.
Andrew Matti is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan. He majored in Electrical Engineering and earned an Entrepreneurship Certificate this past winter. In May 2009, Andrew co-founded Carrier Mobile, which develops mobile phone-based tools to help truck drivers record their duty status and avoid Hours of Service violations. Andrew also has a full-time programming job in the Ann Arbor area, and with his very minimal spare time, he enjoys playing and watching soccer, basketball, football, and hockey.
Andrew Rolph is a graduate student in Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Andrew co-founded Carrier Mobile in the spring of 2009, bringing his experience in the logistics industry. Andrew is an active participant in the Ann Arbor entrepreneurial community, and supports various new business development organizations. His interests are in web entrepreneurship and technology transfer.
Brett Wejrowski is a senior in Computer Science Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Brett co-founded Carrier Mobile in the spring of 2009, bringing his experience in the software engineering and mobile development.
Dylan A. Barrell, CEO Mr. Barrell is the Chief Executive Officer of CrowdClarity. Prior to CrowdClarity, as Director of Digital Business, Dylan was responsible for the highly acclaimed digital center retail concept that was the major innovation unveiled as part of the Borders Concept Stores in February 2008. With 20 years of software experience, Mr. Barrell was Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Kubi Software where he successfully repositioned the company from horizontal collaboration to focus on sales effectiveness solutions. This repositioning led to Kubi’s acquisition by the leading sales effectiveness vendor. Mr. Barrell co-founded Intunix AG as the Technical Director in charge of product development and product management, which was acquired by Open Text in 1995. At Open Text, Mr. Barrell held management positions in Technical Sales, Product Management, Marketing and most recently Vice President of Corporate Development where he oversaw the acquisition of Optura.Mr. Barrell has a BS in Computer Science from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
Jonathan Carender is a third-year student at the University of Michigan. He is majoring in Materials Science Engineering, minoring in Physics, and pursuing an Entrepreneurship Certificate. In April 2008, Jon co-founded CrowdClarity (formerly Frontier Markets), which develops collaborative, web-based tools to help B2C Product Managers with sales forecasting for new product launches. Currently, he leads CrowdClarity’s Marketing and Sales efforts. Jon is also proud to be a 1931E Scholarship Recipient and enjoys playing ice hockey in his spare time. He is originally from Dexter, MI, where his family currently resides.
Anik Ganguly is the Principal at GAIN Group, LLC, a firm which invests in and advises early-stage, technology-based ventures with high growth potential. With two decades of executive management experience within high-growth Enterprise Software companies, Mr. Ganguly brings great depth to the Board of CrowdClarity, particularly in the areas of sales, organizational development and strategy. He formerly served as Executive Vice President of Operations for Open Text Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEX) which is a leading provider of Enterprise Content Management software solutions. Mr. Ganguly was responsible for all aspects of product strategy, product development and product management. He spearheaded Open Text’s growth from $22 million to over $400 million in sales. Mr. Ganguly received his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from Calcutta University with High Honors, and his M.B.A. from University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he was on the Dean’s List. He continued his education in the areas of Strategy Formulation and Product Development at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan Business School) and Harvard Business School.
Dylan M. Imre, Founder and VP of Product Development Mr. Imre spearheads the design of CrowdClarity’s website and custom development of Graphical User Interfaces. He also actively works on CrowdClarity’s software. His experience is in design, and he maintains many local and out of state business sites. He is currently a third year student at the University of Michigan, School of LSA. He plans on graduating with an Honors Degree in Anthropology, while also minoring in economics and earth science. He has taken engineering courses at the University of Michigan Engineering School, and anthropology studies through the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Israel. Prior to his work with CrowdClarity, Dylan worked with numerous photography studios, designing systems for use in their offices, configuring custom systems and networks, and heading up their web design projects. Dylan enjoys participating in study abroad programs, working on field archaeology overseas, as well as lab work at the Museum of Anthropology in Ann Arbor. He has lived in Michigan for most of his life, and grew up in Haslett, MI.
Jason Bornhorst is a nearly-graduated Computer Science Engineer from the University of Michigan. Jason is affiliated with two startups, Mobil33t and WOMP Software, both of which were founded in the TechArb. Jason is also interested in furthering entrepreneurial development in the student community. To achieve that end, he co-founded Maize Ventures and helps manage the TechArb.
Kunal Jham is a Software Engineer and a recent graduate from University of Michigan. He’s obsessed with all things Mobile and Cloud Computing . While indoors, he enjoys watching movies and writing motivational blog posts. While outside, he plays cricket and welcomes outdoor adventures.
Mayank Garg is a Designer and a Photographer - which comes first is hard to tell. A guy of little words, any talk of photography techniques and new technology however, will have him going all day long. A relaxing day is usually one that involves photowalking and classic films.
Drew Leahy is the President and Founder of Mybandstock.com. He is currently a student at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. He is the author of a music industry blog and the vocalist and producer in The Promenade. At 16, Drew started his entrepreneurship with the creation of Bigger Brush Records, a branding a record label to signing and work with acts in his region. This company was created alongside with friends and partners Dave Suchanek, Kevin Pritchard and John-Michael Fischer. Drew has recorded and produced over 30 artists in the two years he has been at the University, including rock bands, performance majors, choral ensembles, and Broadway artists Andy Mientus (SPRING AWAKENING) and Carey Tedder (MEMPHIS, THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGING) . In the summer of 2007, Drew worked as an engineer at Would Work Sound in Los Angeles, CA and continues to produce and manage artists in the Ann Arbor area.
Bobby Matson is the Co-Founder and Head of Business Development for MyBandStock.com. At age ten, Bobby began playing drums and has since involved music in every facet of his life. He tours with Farewell Republic, a rock quartet based out of Ann Arbor, MI. He is pursuing a BBA degree from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan. Bobby’s sales experience includes work with Southwestern Company and Bianchi-Rossi Tours. He is also working as a business consultant for Tribes-A-Dozen LLC.
Jeremy Canfield received his bachelor’s degree in Business Information Technology from Virginia Tech. Prior to coming to Michigan, he worked for the Government Accountability Office on a variety of projects centered around developing collaborative web-based technologies. His interests are information visualization, location-aware computing and social network analysis.
Eric Garcia graduated from the University of Michigan in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in Spanish. Immediately following graduation, he began studying computer science and working as a translator at the UM. For the past two years, he has freelanced as a web designer. His interests lie in database design, web 2.0 technologies, and information retrieval and analysis.
Benjamin Malley has a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and is a student at the School of Information at Michigan. His areas of interest are social network analysis, data mining, interactive stories and iced tea.
Sergio Mendez-Baiges received his bachelor’s degree in Management and Entrepreneurship from Baruch College (CUNY) in New York City. After graduating, he came to Ann Arbor to work in the marketing department of Holcim (US), a world leader in cement manufacturing, where he spent two years developing databases for advertising purposes. He recently graduated from the University of Michigan - School of Information with a master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction. He has extensive experience designing, developing, and testing database-driven sites.
Brandon “Quazie” Kwaselow is a recently graduated Computer Science Major through the University of Michigan’s Literature Science and the Arts college. He has been working on iPhone development for the past eight months writing award winning applications in both local and Yahoo! programming contests. He is interested in both web and application level development, on both mac and pc operating systems, and will be working with Microsoft come August. http://quazie.net
Adam Berkaw is a senior at the University of Michigan majoring in Political Science. Mr. Berkaw has worked in three notoriously high-stress film production offices in Los Angeles, California handling office expenditures, reviewing script concepts, and performing quality control (summers ’07 and ’08). In addition to his experience in the film industry, he sold exterior home painting for several months through cold calling, estimates, and in-home sales. In competition with over 50 others, he consistently finished in the top five in estimates and sales every week in the state of Michigan. He has also worked at Blockbuster, developing an understanding of customer interactions and sales. While there, he developed a loyal customer following.
Gaurav Bhatnagar graduated from the University of Michigan’s School of Information with a master’s degree in human-computer interaction and social computing in May 2009. His goals include creating enjoyable experiences and empowering others to accomplish their goals. He’s interested and experienced in user research, interaction design and mobile and web product development.
